Abstract

Abstract This research aimed to determine the relationship between attitude toward mathematics and problem solving in fifth-year secondary school students at an educational institution in the district of Juan Guerra, San Martín region, in 2025. The study was framed within the positivist paradigm, with a quantitative approach, correlational study, basic research and non-experimental cross-sectional design. The dimensions of problem solving were analyzed: resources, heuristics, control and belief systems. The sample consisted of 68 students, selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. Data collection employed two Likert-scale questionnaires, previously validated and with adequate reliability. Inferential analysis was conducted using Spearman’s Rho coefficient. The results revealed a positive, moderate and significant relationship between the variables (Rho=0.642; p < 0.05). In conclusion, attitude toward mathematics is significantly related to problem-solving ability, highlighting the importance of the affective component in mathematical learning.
