Abstract
El presente trabajo de investigación tuvo como objetivo mejorar la expresión oral en inglés mediante la aplicación del role play en estudiantes de quinto grado de primaria de una institución educativa durante el año 2024. La investigación se desarrolló bajo un enfoque cualitativo y diseño de investigación-acción. Para el recojo de información se utilizaron tres instrumentos: lista de cotejo aplicada en la evaluación diagnóstica y en la evaluación de salida, diarios de campo y lista de cotejo por cada sesión. Para la aplicación, se empleó el role play en diversas situaciones comunicativas y contextualizadas, que promovieron el uso real del idioma en el aula. Los resultados evidenciaron mejoras en la pronunciación, fluidez, interacción oral y vocabulario, así como una mayor seguridad y participación por parte de los estudiantes para aprender el idioma. Se concluye que el role play es una técnica eficaz para fortalecer y mejorar la expresión oral en inglés, al propiciar un ambiente dinámico, participativo y motivador dentro del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje.
This study aimed to improve students’ oral communication in English through the application of role play activities with fifth-grade primary students at a school in 2024. The research followed a qualitative approach within an action research design. Data were collected using three instruments: an oral communication checklist administered in a diagnostic assessment and in an exit assessment, a field journal, and a session observation checklist. During the intervention, role play was integrated into various communicative and contextualized situations that promoted the authentic use of English in the classroom. The findings showed improvements in pronunciation, fluency, oral interaction, and vocabulary, as well as increased confidence and participation in learning English. It is concluded that role play is an effective strategy for strengthening oral communication in English, as it fosters a dynamic, participatory, and motivating environment within the teaching–learning process.
