Abstract
This innovative proposal was born in the practice center of the Institución Educativa Aplicación Monterrico, with the pilot group of 3 year old students , in which by means of the technique of the applied diagnostic evaluation, it was determined that the 20 students presented deficiencies with respect to the competence "Solve quantity problems". For this reason, this research has been developed with the objective of promoting the development of the competence "Solve quantity problems" through the application of the "MatePlay" project. Qualitative instruments such as the field diary and observation records and quantitative instruments such as the checklist were used for data collection. The research conducted belongs to the Educational Innovation modality, based on the learning project methodology, with the strategy "Mathematics Their Way" and takes the students' interest in traditional games. As a result, it is evident that the strategy "Mathematics Their Way" has been really beneficial for the students. In conclusion, the present project made it possible for the students to acquire the notions prior to the concept of number of Maria Rencoret's hierarchy model, achieving the development of mathematical competence.
