Abstract
The pedagogical report of the Ministry of Education for the year 2023, about the National Assessment of Learning Achievements (ENLA), in reading competence, shows that the majority of students in the 2nd grade of Primary Education fail to reach the satisfactory level due to factors such as: lack of reading habit, lack of knowledge on the part of teachers about the adequate application of strategies for reading and writing, and parents' disinterest in their children's learning, which makes learning to read and write difficult. For this reason, this research seeks to describe the importance of games as a teaching strategy to strengthen literacy in Primary Education. For this purpose, the qualitative approach methodology is used, based on documentary design research, of an informative nature, which was carried out through qualitative instruments: electronic file, web page registry and triangulation matrix. The application of games compiled in successful experiences that have won national contests, such as the family store, the educational basket, the “bibliopatio” and playing with the words used by gamification, motivate and strengthen Primary Education students in the process of literacy.
