Abstract
The present research, entitled “Reading Mediation as a Strategy to Strengthen Text Comprehension”, was carried out under a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The technique used was the survey, and the instrument was a reading comprehension questionnaire applied to a sample of 29 students from 3rd grade “D.” The results showed improvements in the literal, inferential, and critical levels of reading comprehension. At the literal level, the students remained at the same achievement level; however, an increase in the average score was observed. At the inferential level, the average score rose, showing progress in the deduction of implicit information. At the critical level, the average score also increased, reflecting a greater ability to make judgments and question ideas. It was concluded that reading mediation is an effective strategy that fosters the development of written text comprehension by promoting active, reflective, and critical reading. Likewise, its systematic incorporation into pedagogical practices is recommended to strengthen students’ reading skills.
