Abstract
The research project stemmed from the transition to 100% in-person classes, during which we encountered various issues affecting school coexistence. These issues included the lack of essential skills, attitudes, and competencies that should be nurtured through the Social Studies curriculum. To address these challenges, we opted for the Project-Based Learning (PBL) pedagogical approach. PBL is designed to create purposeful activities and strategies aimed at enhancing school coexistence among primary school students. The research was conducted with a sample of 20 third-grade students from Monterrico Institución Educativa Aplicación. We adopted an educational innovation framework with a qualitative approach and implemented an action research design of a practical nature. To gauge the students' progress, we employed three validated assessment tools: a field diary, an observation guide, and a focus group. The findings of the study demonstrated that third grade primary school students obtained substantial improvements in the following areas: The fulfillment of the agreements of coexistence, quality in interpersonal relationships and conflict resolution, as well as the achievement in learning the competence “to coexist and participate democratically in the search for the common good.”
