Abstract
This academic work aims to analyze how motivation contributes to the oral production of the English language at the elementary school level, based on a review of theoretical sources and previous studies. This research followed a qualitative approach. Sampieri (2018) states that this type of investigation provides an exploratory investigation, considering details, environment contextualization, and a natural point of view. For this reason, an analysis of books, scientific articles, theses, dissertations, and others, was focused on the primary education level. Considering all the findings that support this work, it is concluded that motivation for English oral production in primary school does indeed improve significantly, through both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, taking into account the students’ characteristics, needs, and context. These results coincide with other studies, when strategies are relevant and aligned with the students´ reality, they feel confident and are able to express themselves freely in English. In other words, it is confirmed that the use of different types of motivation, together with appropriate strategies, generate changes in students’ interests and willingness to participate through incentives and rewards.
